PRESS RELEASE

Phoenix Raised from the Ashes

Local, family run firm, Stewart Longtons, have today announced that they are the mystery buyers of the well known MG Rover Phoenix site in the centre of Chorley. The site has been empty since the Rover Car Group closed down in July 2005 and there has been speculation ever since about what might happen to the town centre location.

Gary Hall, the Managing Director of Stewart Longtons, said today “As a local firm we were well aware of the talk about what might happen to the site and we were determined to do everything we could to keep the Chorley connection. If the site had been sold to a large multi-national there is no telling what might have happened. As it is we have increased our stake in Chorley because we want to demonstrate our commitment to the local economy and be in a position to employ local people in the extra jobs that will be provided by our expansion.”

Stewart Longtons are well known throughout the North West as agents for Abbey, Bessacarr, Sprite and Sterling caravans. The connection with Chorley started more than 30 years ago when the company set up in business at premises that are now part of the new railway station. All these years later Chorley serves as the Head Office for all of the Stewart Longton depots and now they have taken the huge step of buying another site right in the heart of the town.

In fact, Stewart Longtons is owned by the Hall’s who are a Blackpool based family that started a radio and T.V rental company in the resort more than 50 years ago. In 1968 they bought a caravan park company in the North West, in 1975 they started selling touring caravans in Chorley and then they added motorhomes in 2001.

The new location will be the flagship for Stewart Longtons and will deal in a range of quality new and used motorhomes. They will also have a selection of nearly new cars – cabriolets ready for the summer, family cars and vehicles suited for towing touring caravans. They can be contacted on 01257 220222.
